Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is situated perfectly in Winona with magnificent bluffs that surround the college campus. It is a fabulous environment to get the ideal outdoor experience every college student has dreamed of. SMU has a wide variety of activities for students to get involved in during their time studying at school. SMU has a beautiful frisbee golf course located throughout the campus on the grass, close to the bluffs. There are many trails to go hiking up to the “Rock” located at the top of the bluffs. This is a beautiful outlook that overlooks Winona.  It is important to get outside to get fresh air. It is good for your mind, body, and spirit. 

By getting outdoors, it is good for your mind, body and spirit. Mind- Being outdoors gives your mind a vacation when you go outside. It is a way to escape reality. When students are really stressed with exams, friendships or missing home, nature is the best way to escape for a period of time and enjoy the beautiful nature of the outdoors. Body- The best way to relieve stress is to exercise. It is best to take full advantage of the water when it is nice and sunny outside. It is a good idea to move your daily workouts outdoors to enjoy the fresh air and colors of the changing trees. Being outdoors increases your Vitamin D level. Having a higher level of Vitamin D ask helps protect students from health issues such as bone problems, heat disease, and diabetes. Some additional benefits to being outdoors is the improvement if makes to eye site. Being outdoors can decrease the chance of nearsightedness and increase your distance eye sight. Joe Dulak, director and tutor coordinator at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota stated: Exercise creates chemicals to better remember information for a test.” The more you get outdoors , the better you will feel. Spirit- College students spend so much time studying for exams. Stress levels are high especially  around midterms. Taking a break to get fresh air helps students stay posit and keep their spirits high!
